What fun things are there to do in Honolulu on Oahu, Hawaii?

My husband and I are going to go to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and Spa for a week in Honolulu and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions of restaurants, snorkeling places, ropes courses, fun beaches, etc for us to do without going broke. Any suggestions? Thank you! :)
There's actually four sections of Oahu (going by shores):
-North Shore
-South Shore
-East Shore
-West Shore

(This has nothing to do with my answer, I just wanted to correct the third poster).

Anywhoo, you can buy an entertainment book, which is FILLED with coupons for everything you can imagine. Yes, you gotta pay for it but it's worth it.

After buying that, you can do whatever you want without going broke. I highly suggest you and your husband head out to Ku'aloa Ranch to horseback ride, go ATV'ing, kyaking, etc. It's a lot of fun.

Just two years ago i went to Oahu. I recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center it is very interesting and there's lots of cool things to see there. Hanauma Bay had some great snorkeling and i even saw a sea turtle so definitely hit that up. :) As far as dining go and look for night cruises(you can find plenty in the yellow pages). They serve traditional hawaiian food that is to die for! Also, they are fun and a great way to see the island at night. Visit the Dole plantation that is a pretty cool place, but at the same time has lead to a downfall in hawaii which is rather sad. Also, deep sea fishing can be fun if you are into that(once again look at the yellow pages). Of course, you have to make plenty of time for the beach. Waikiki is the most popular beach but if you're into surfing try the north shore. hope i helped (:

we did lots of things that were free. We hiked up Diamond Head, hiked to the lighthouse, visited the Byodo-In Temple, walked through Chinatown, went to Pearl Harbor, ate Dole WHips at the Dole Plantation and went to practically every beach all the way around the island! Our favorite was Waimea Bay- beautiful! We stayed on Waikiki Beach- which was great too. We ate local food mostly- cheaper. Browse around the International market- a great place for cheap souvenirs! have fun!

First thing to do is to hop in the car and take a drive around the island to see what you want to do from there. See the contrast between the South Shore, East Shore, and North Shore. The South Shore is what we like to call "Town" and everything else is the "Country". Dividing your options between the two, town offers all of the shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and yes the South Shore for surfing and the beach life. The East Shore offers more of the beach life with Kailua state beach being a must stop for some kayaking, kite surfing, or stand up paddling. The North Shore is the country and offers more of the same as the East Shore but on a bigger scale.

There is so many things to do from hikes, beach life, shopping, tourist spots and such that you will have plenty to do. But just get a sense of direction when you first get here and branch out from there. Seven days is plenty time enough to decide on what you want to do. Also, without going broke, check into a day trip to another island to see the contrast between them all.
